Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami and its alliance of Islamic and other opposition parties have announced protests along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Earlier, National Citizen Party (NCP), led by anti-Sheikh Hasina student leaders, has also been included in this alliance. The coalition says the protests will be held to protest alleged torture of Bangladeshi citizens by India and alleged killings near the border.

The 11-party Jamaat-e-Islami-led alliance has announced that protest rallies will be held on June 12 at border districts and key border points in Bangladesh. After this, a big meeting and procession will be held in the capital Dhaka on June 15. The alliance has also criticized the Bangladesh government, alleging that India is trying to forcibly send people across the border.

Bangladeshi civilians were killed in BSF firing

The alliance also alleged that Bangladeshi nationals were killed in firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF). It has also been announced to take out a march at the Indian border posts on this issue. The decision comes at a time when the issue of alleged push-in, i.e. forcibly sending people across the border, has become a hot topic in Bangladesh. According to reports, Dhaka also raised the issue ahead of the recently held Director General level meeting between the Border Security Forces of India and Bangladesh in New Delhi. Although India has denied these allegations. India maintains that it is not doing any kind of push-in and that only illegal foreign nationals are being repatriated as per due legal procedures and arrangements in both countries. India says such people are repatriated only after thorough identity verification.

Criticism of Home Minister of Bangladesh Government

After the demonstration proposed by Islamic parties in Bangladesh, the issue is no longer confined to government discussions but seems to be taking the form of a public protest. In its statement, Jamaat-e-Islami said that a protest rally will be held in the border districts on June 12 and a large protest march will be held in Dhaka on June 15. This statement is signed by former MP AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad. He had earlier also criticized the Home Minister of the Bangladesh government on border issues and said the government was adopting a softer stance towards India.

Organization of Islamic Ideology in Bangladesh

The alliance of 11 parties was formed ahead of Bangladesh’s general election on February 12. It is led by the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and includes several organizations with Islamic ideologies. These include Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Khilafat Majlis, Bangladesh Khilafat Movement and Nizam-e-Islam Party and many other parties. The protests along the Indian border were announced at a press conference held at the Jamaat-e-Islami central office in Dhaka on Wednesday. AHM Hamidur Rehman Azad, coordinator of the alliance and assistant general secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami, said that rallies will be held in all important border areas on Friday, June 12, followed by massive protests in the capital on June 15.

How many illegal immigrants have been deported to Bangladesh so far?

The West Bengal government has said that around 4,800 illegal migrants have been sent to Bangladesh from holding centers along the border, while another 836 are in the process of being returned. India and Bangladesh share an approximately 4,096 km long border, which is considered India’s longest international border with any country. The issue is currently being discussed at the diplomatic and border management levels in both countries, while the Jamaat-e-Islami-led alliance is preparing to take it forward as a public movement.
