Bangladesh have won the ODI series against Australia for the first time. Bangladesh beat Australia by 5 wickets in the second ODI played on Thursday to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series. This is Bangladesh’s first ODI series win against Australia.
After losing the second ODI in a row against Bangladesh, Australia captain Josh Inglis said, “It’s always hard to recover when you lose three wickets so quickly. The partnership between Marnus and Xavier was fantastic. They took us to a below average score, but at least it gave us something to bowl to. We tried really hard to build a partnership on the Bangladesh ground. I thought he played really well.”

He said the decision to bat first was not wrong. Although we managed to get through the first few overs without losing a wicket, it still looked a very good pitch to bat on. Not as fast or bouncy as the first match, but runs were certainly possible. Personally, I started well but got out at a crucial turn, so it didn’t help. “Marnus and Javier did a great job to get us a respectable score, but in the end it wasn’t enough.”
Asked about defending the 187, Inglis said, “You always have to believe. You have to give everything and believe in yourself. I thought the pitch gave a lot with the new ball. If we could have taken the first three or four wickets, we would have stayed in the contest. I thought we bowled well in the middle overs and gave us a chance to take wickets in the last overs, which gave us the last chance. All three aspects need improvement, but this is something we are disappointed in.
He said, “Bangladesh have played better than us in the series so far, so full credit goes to them for the win. We will regroup, come back strongly and try to end the series on a positive note.”
Looking at this match, Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. Australia had scored 187 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 42 overs when the innings was halted due to rain. Bangladesh were given a revised target of 192 runs in 41 overs as per DLS rules. Bangladesh scored 195 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 35 overs to win the match by 5 wickets. Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was selected as the man of the match. Rahman took 3 wickets for 27 runs in 7 overs.
