Spain beat defending champions Argentina in the FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. They will not only lift the trophy but take home a record $50 million in prize money.

How much does the winner and runner-up get?

The 2026 World Cup finalists – Argentina and Spain – are set to share a combined $83 million in prize money, the highest ever payout for a World Cup final. The champions will receive $50 million (approximately ₹4,814 crore), while the runner-up will receive $33 million (approximately ₹3,177 crore). The third-ranked team, England, will take home $29 million (approx. ₹2,792 crore), while fourth-ranked France will get $27 million (approx. ₹2,599 crore).

The Three Lions beat Les Bleus 6-4 in a thrilling third-place match in Miami on Sunday for their best FIFA World Cup performance since winning in 1966.

The teams eliminated in the quarterfinals will receive $19 million (approximately ₹1,829 crore) each, while the teams eliminated in the Round of 16 will receive $15 million (approximately ₹1,444 crore). Group-stage finishers are guaranteed a minimum of $11 million (approx. ₹1,059 crore) and teams that fail to make it out of the group are also guaranteed $9 million (approx. ₹866 crore).

Record prize pool

This year’s tournament has broken all previous financial records. FIFA had initially announced a prize fund of $727 million, but later approved an increase in both the base participation fee and the preparation grant, increasing the total prize pool to $871 million (approximately Rs 83,866 crore).

Award amounts are divided into two categories: performance-based awards and non-performance-based financial assistance. Performance-based awards account for $703 million (approximately ₹67,668 crore) in the total prize pool. Additionally, FIFA has allocated $168 million (approx. Rs. 16,173 crore) as financial assistance to all participating teams.

The winning share of $50 million is $8 million more than Argentina’s winnings in 2022.

Each team gets a guaranteed payout

A preparation grant of $2.5 million (approx. ₹240 crore) to each of the 48 qualifying nations, along with an additional team contribution of $16 million (approx. ₹1,540 crore) to cover tournament-related expenses. With a guaranteed qualification payment of $10 million (approx. ₹962 crore), each team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup is guaranteed to receive at least $12.5 million (approx. ₹1,203 crore) before the tournament begins.
