The FIFA world team rankings have been reshuffled at the end of the 2026 World Cup, with new champions Spain beating Argentina 1-0 in the final at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
Ferran Torres’ 106th-minute strike helped La Rosa win their second World Cup in 16 years, breaking Argentina’s grip on the trophy. Lionel Messi’s side dropped two places in the standings, while France, who finished fourth at the World Cup, maintained third place. England, who defeated France 6-4 to win the bronze medal, remain in fourth place.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal slipped out of the top five to seventh place while the five-time World Cup winners slipped to fifth.
Morocco rose to a program-best sixth place in the world rankings by virtue of their historic semifinal appearance at Qatar 2022. The Atlas Lions carried that momentum into the 2026 World Cup, beating the Netherlands in the round of 32 on penalties before ending their journey against France in the quarter-finals.
A disappointing campaign at the World Cup saw four-time world champions Germany drop from 10th to 12th after losing to Paraguay in the round of 32 on penalties.
